Three Cultural Attractions in Katwijk are united 6th of July to the 25th of August 2015
A special arrangement is on offer this summer. The participants enter into the sphere of the past and will be taken on a journey through time. They will experience unforgetable moments of recognition and amazement now that three important cultural attractions in Katwijk have joined together to give their visitors an extraordinary day out. An ideal outing for the whole family and for grandparents with their grandchildren !
This ‘trip through time takes place in the summer during the Katwijk’s ‘Tourist- Market’ each Tuesday from the 24th of June to the 26th of August. The day begins at 10.30 am. with a welcoming cup of coffee and a Katwijks ‘Knip’ (a local cookie) in the Katwijks Museum on the Voorstraat.
After the coffee, a guided tour will be given through this historical building, along the special collection of paintings by Dutch and foreign artists associated with Katwijk, and the beautiful collection of local and regional ‘objects of importance’. You will also be amazed by the current temporary exhibition dedicated to the local photograph Dick Hogewoning.
Afterwards, at 12.30, you will walk, led by your guide, to the Prins Hendrikkade where Captain IJs Plug is waiting with the historic motor vessel ‘The Wilhelmina’ . This ship is a so called ‘Katwijker’, built in 1915 and formally used for transport in the herring fishing-industry. The ship will depart at 12.45, motoring up the Rijn to near Valkenburg, where it will moor near the National Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum (Smalspoormuseum) at about 13.30. A so-called ‘Skippers-lunch’, for the price of € 3,50, is on offer and can be eaten on board during the voyage.
A film about Narrow Gauge Railways will be shown. The visitors can then visit the engine sheds and learn about the rural railways of the previous century. The visit is of course incomplete without a train ride on the real narrow gauge train around the Valkenburg Lake.
The Wilhelmina will leave for Katwijk at 15.45 which it will reach at about 16.30, and moor in the Prins Hendrikkanaal. The participants can then enjoy the lively sphere of the Tourist-Market in the village until 21.00 hours (9 pm).
Participants for this special arrangement can book in advance at the front desk of the Katwijk’s Museum, Voorstraat 46 , telephone 071- 4013047 or by Captain IJs Plug, mobile telephone number 06-53239486.
The arrangement costs € 22,00 per person, or € 17,00 for Museum Card holders and children to 12 years old. (Both sums are exclusive of the optional ‘Skippers-lunch’ for € 3,50 ).
n.b. Due to the cost of fuel and to the limited capacity of the ship, there is a minimum of 6 and maximum of 18 participants each Tuesday. You are advised to book early, as Full-up is Full-up!
( You are also advised to bring a bottle of water with you.)
