'Waterworks' by Harold Schouten (1961)
Displayed works from his oeuvre of the last ten years. He works largely 'en plein air.' Concentrating on a current image he will return to a previously seen, previously painted landscape; and connect hem. By joining past and present he thus suggests parallel realities. Sometimes he depicts the vastness and diversity of the landscapes on panoramic panels. Thereby the viewer is able to fill the intervening spaces with his own interpretations. The suggestion of vastness is enhanced by this fragmentation.
One significant factor he uses is the incorporation of a motif from everyday life.
The constantly changing light, particularly on water, fascinates Schouten. Water plays a key role in this exhibtion.
